Hoosier Grove Barn

About the Hoosier Grove Barn

The Hoosier Grove Barn was originally built by the Struckmeier family in 1888. The family moved to the area known as Hoosier Grove, in the 1870s. The barn and surrounding land was used to raise dairy cows.

In 1955, the farmstead was acquired by the Landmeier family. They incorporated modern farming techniques that enable them to raise large crops of corn, soybeans, and pumpkins.  It was the Landmeier family that establishes the annual tradition of selling pumpkins; a tradition which is still carried on by the Streamwood Park District.

The Park District purchased the 19 acre parcel of land from the Landmeier's in 1988.  To preserve the history of this farmstead, the Board of Commissioners decided to restore the barn and surrounding buildings. These buildings include the areas original one room school house, horse barn and farm house.

Renovation of the barn began in early 1993. This 35-ton barn was raised and moved off its cobblestone foundation.  The original structure remains intact, including the support timbers and interior siding.  The exterior was painted, returning it to its initial red color.

In honor of the original residents, the 'Legacy of the Land' exhibit is located on the lower level of the barn which depicts the history of agriculture in this area.

About the Hoosier Grove Bark Banquet Facility

The 2,000-square-foot barn has been transformed into a banquet and meeting room facility and is operated by the Streamwood Park District. While the character of the original structure has been retained, the barn offers a unique setting for wedding receptions, community events, private parties and small business or corporate meetings.

Hoosier Grove Barn is part of a historical center located within the 19-acre Hoosier Grove Park.  This center features a
turn-of-the-century one-room schoolhouse, a farmhouse, a horse barn and other small outbuildings.  A beautiful gazebo ideal for
group gatherings and outdoor concerts is located next to the barn.

The grounds around the Hoosier Grove Barn Banquet Facility may be rented for outdoor events, such as company picnics.

Staff is available to help with the details of your event.  You may arrange your own caterer or supply your own food.  Liquor package information is also available upon request.
